Delhi Government Mandates Dedicated First-Aid Facilities Across All 1,086 State Schools
Delhi authorities move to establish fully equipped first-aid facilities and emergency healthcare protocols across all 1,086 government-run schools in the capital.

According to officials familiar with the blueprint, the initiative will transform how elementary and secondary schools handle physical trauma and health crises, providing structured infirmary spaces, standardized medical kits, and designated personnel trained in basic life support (BLS).
Strengthening Primary Care on Campus
Under the comprehensive framework drafted by the Directorate of Education, each government school will be mandated to set up a dedicated medical recovery room. These spaces will be outfitted with essential emergency supplies, including burn dressings, antiseptic solutions, immobilization splints, digital thermometers, automated blood pressure cuffs, and portable oxygen units where feasible.
In addition to hardware procurement, the administration plans to conduct mandatory certification workshops in collaboration with state health agencies. Selected teachers and administrative personnel will be trained as certified first responders to manage acute allergic reactions, fainting spells, heat-induced distress, and sports injuries before professional medical transit arrives.
"Classroom safety goes hand-in-hand with academic development. Ensuring prompt, professional first-aid intervention can prevent minor injuries from compounding into life-threatening emergencies," a senior education department official stated regarding the rollout.
Seamless Hospital and Mohalla Clinic Linkages
To ensure institutional continuity beyond basic first-aid, the initiative pairs each school with the nearest Delhi government hospital and local Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinic. The standardized protocol mandates clear emergency dispatch chains, providing designated ambulance contact networks and pre-cleared admission channels for critical pediatric situations.
Key pillars of the new student healthcare plan include:
* Standardized Medical Infrastructure: Upgrading school health rooms with stretchers, wheel chairs, diagnostic monitors, and trauma kits. * Designated First-Aid Officers: Appointing trained nodal teachers and support staff for immediate emergency triage across both morning and evening shifts. * Emergency Transit Links: Formalizing tie-ups with district hospitals and centralized ambulance dispatch for rapid secondary transit. * Preventive Health Records: Maintaining updated digital student health profiles documenting chronic conditions, severe allergies, and baseline vitals.
Addressing Past Structural Gaps
For years, government schools in urban clusters often depended on ad-hoc medical responses, relying on basic medicine cabinets or requiring students to be transported out of school premises for even routine scrapes, fractures, or dehydration episodes. The implementation of uniform first-aid setups across all 1,086 educational institutions aims to eliminate regional disparities and ensure that students in outer and densely populated zones receive equal on-site clinical care.
The phased implementation of the equipment rollout and staff training modules is slated to commence immediately, with full operational status targeted ahead of the upcoming academic term.
