Gurugram Power Grid Collapse Plunges 50,000 Homes Into Darkness, Stalls 1,800 Industrial Units
A massive power outage hit Gurugram, leaving 50,000 households without electricity and bringing operations across 1,800 industrial units to a sudden halt.

Severe Power Disruption Grips Millennium City
A cascading failure across critical transmission infrastructure has plunged extensive swathes of Gurugram into darkness, disrupting regular life for over 50,000 households and crippling assembly lines across roughly 1,800 factories. The widespread outages, which began late Tuesday night, have exacerbated citizen woes amid high municipal power demand, exposing critical vulnerabilities in the region's urban electrical network.
Key residential pockets across New Gurugram, including Sectors 56, 57, 45, and parts of DLF Phases 1 through 3, reported continuous supply cuts stretching beyond 10 to 14 hours. The sudden outage triggered a heavy reliance on diesel generator (DG) backup systems, sending operating costs surging for housing societies and residential complexes.
Industrial Belts Grind to a Halt
The supply failure hit the industrial manufacturing clusters of Udyog Vihar, Sector 37, and the Manesar industrial belt hardest. With grid power cut abruptly and secondary feeder lines failing to pick up load, assembly units, automotive component makers, and garment fabrication centers were forced to idle operations.
Industry representatives voiced mounting frustration over the financial repercussions:
* Production Losses: Over 1,800 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) reported suspended shifts and compromised delivery deadlines. * Spiking Operational Expenses: Plants switching to diesel generator backup incurred three to four times the cost of conventional grid tariffs. * Equipment Vulnerability: Sudden voltage fluctuations before the total outage reportedly damaged delicate electrical control panels in multiple manufacturing plants.
"Industrial corridors cannot operate unpredictably on intermittent generator power," stated a senior office bearer of a local industrial association. "Continuous manufacturing cycles and sensitive machinery suffer irreparable setbacks when transmission drops without prior load-shedding warnings."
Discom Cites Transformer Breakdowns and Grid Overload
Officials from Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) attributed the widespread blackout to multiple technical breakdowns, including burnt feeder cables, localized transformer bursts, and severe load tripping caused by elevated peak consumption.
Emergency maintenance squads were mobilized to bypass damaged substations and initiate step-by-step restoration. While priority lines feeding healthcare facilities and emergency water pumping stations were brought back online within hours, dense residential sectors and heavy industrial feeder circuits faced delayed turnarounds due to the extent of the transmission burnout.
Authorities confirmed that temporary power routing had commenced, with complete grid stabilization anticipated once replacement transformer units are fully integrated and tested under operational loads.
