An aspiring job applicant in Rajasthan's Alwar district fell victim to a sophisticated digital fraud scheme, losing approximately Rs 1.25 lakh through unauthorized credit card transactions after clicking on a deceptive employment link.

According to local cyber cell officials, the victim received an unsolicited message across a digital messaging platform offering lucrative part-time employment opportunities. Upon clicking an embedded hyperlink intended to complete the application registration, the individual was redirected to a spoofed portal designed to harvest sensitive financial credentials.

The Mechanics of the Phishing Exploit

Investigating officers revealed that once the victim entered basic verification details, malicious background scripts compromised the browser session. Within minutes, multiple unauthorized transactions were initiated against the individual's credit card, triggering debits totaling Rs 1.25 lakh before the card could be blocked.

Key aspects highlighted by law enforcement in such scams include:

* Spoofed Registration Forms: Victims are prompted to input personal and card credentials disguised as nominal verification or registration fees. * Session Interception: Malicious portals intercept one-time passwords (OTPs) via cloned server requests, bypassing standard multi-factor authentication defenses. * Mule Account Routing: Siphoned funds are instantly layered across dispersed regional payment gateways and bank accounts to hinder recovery efforts.

Police Investigation Underway

The Alwar district police cyber unit has registered a formal case under pertinent sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code dealing with cheating by impersonation and criminal fraud. Technical traces, transaction logs, and IP addresses associated with the phishing servers are actively being tracked.

Authorities have intensified surveillance across cybercrime corridors in the region, noting a surge in syndicated networks targeting unemployed youth with deceptive work-from-home propositions.

Advisory on Recruitment Scams

Law enforcement agencies have reiterated strict public safety guidelines advising digital users against interacting with unverified external links. Citizens are urged to confirm recruitment listings solely through verified corporate portals and to avoid entering financial credentials on third-party registration pages. Any unauthorized debits should be reported immediately to the national cybercrime reporting helpline (1930) to facilitate rapid freezing of compromised transaction conduits.
