A routine patrol in the dense foliage of the Corbett Tiger Reserve turned into a perilous battle for survival after a Bengal tiger ambushed a field worker, pinning him to the ground before a fellow companion intervened with extraordinary composure and courage.

According to forestry personnel and local administrative sources, the harrowing encounter unfolded along the peripheral buffer zone of the reserve in Uttarakhand. The two workers were conducting maintenance and perimeter surveillance when the adult tiger suddenly emerged from the dense underbrush, leaping toward one of the men and tackling him to the earth.

A Daring Act of Defiance

As the predator pinned the defenseless worker, attempting to neutralize him, his colleague reacted immediately rather than fleeing. Grabbing a stout wooden stick from the forest floor, the second worker advanced toward the big cat, shouting loudly and striking the predator repeatedly across its flank.

Startled by the aggressive counter-assault and sudden noise, the tiger released its grip, hesitated momentarily, and retreated into the thick canopy of the sal forest, allowing the uninjured companion to drag the victim to safety.

Medical Response and Condition

Emergency forestry medical units were promptly alerted, dispatching a rescue vehicle to evacuate the wounded individual to a nearby medical facility in Ramnagar.

Attending physicians confirmed that while the victim sustained severe lacerations, claw punctures, and bruising on his upper torso and shoulders, he escaped fatal trauma to the neck and skull. His condition has since been stabilized, and he remains under observation for wound care and infection prevention.

Escalated Vigilance in Reserve Buffer Zones

Corbett Tiger Reserve, home to one of India's densest wild tiger populations, regularly witnesses human-predator proximity issues, particularly along fringe tracts shared by staff, pastoralists, and seasonal laborers.

Following the incident, senior wildlife division officials initiated targeted response protocols:

* Reinforced Foot Patrols: Field staff have been instructed to traverse vulnerable forest tracks in teams of three or more, equipped with noisemakers and protective gear. * Camera Trap Monitoring: Forest rangers have deployed supplementary automated camera traps across the encounter grid to track the tiger's movements and confirm whether the animal is nursing an injury. * Community Advisories: Nearby fringe settlements and daily-wage laborers have been advised to limit movement during dusk and dawn hours, when predatory activity typically peaks.

Forest authorities commended the companion's swift, fearless intervention, acknowledging that an unarmed confrontation with an apex carnivore is extraordinarily perilous, yet in this instance, undeniably prevented a tragic fatality.
