Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched a scathing critique against former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing his predecessor of squandering state resources on opulent personal projects while ignoring the basic needs of impoverished citizens.

Speaking at a public event outlining the developmental trajectory under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Naidu underscored a stark ideological contrast between the current coalition and the previous administration, emphasizing that fiscal prudence and public service remain the cornerstone of his governance model.

Contrasting Priorities

Addressing party workers and local citizens, Naidu pointed to controversial capital expenditure during the previous regime, referencing large-scale spending on state-funded residential complexes and government buildings, notably the controversial Rushikonda project in Visakhapatnam.

"The previous ruler was obsessed with building lavish palaces and indulging in personal luxuries at the taxpayer's expense, whereas the NDA government's singular focus remains on uplifting the poorest of the poor," Naidu said during his address.

Key contrasts highlighted by the Chief Minister included:

* Resource Allocation: Diverting capital expenditure away from vanity infrastructure toward critical social safety nets, irrigation networks, and road connectivity. * Pensions and Welfare Delivery: Direct enhancement of welfare payouts without procedural bottlenecks or politically motivated disruptions. * Rebuilding the State Treasury: Implementing measures to restore Andhra Pradesh's financial credibility following years of mounting public debt.

The Rushikonda Controversy

The Chief Minister reiterated that the discovery of opulent fixtures and extensive luxury spending at the Rushikonda hill complex epitomized the misplaced priorities of the YSRCP tenure. The seaside property, commissioned under the guise of an official tourism project, drew severe public and legal scrutiny after revelations showed extravagant interiors designed for state dignitaries.

Naidu argued that while public infrastructure fell into disrepair and contractor dues mounted across key irrigation and rural development projects, public funds were channeled into high-end finishes and closed-door refurbishments.

NDA's Focus on Reviving Governance

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led NDA administration—comprising the TDP, Jana Sena Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—has sought to emphasize welfare expansion, administrative transparency, and economic rejuvenation since returning to power in June 2024.

Naidu concluded by reaffirming that governance under the NDA alliance would prioritize grassroots economic empowerment, rural employment, and infrastructure over ceremonial or vanity initiatives, vowing full accountability for state resources.
