Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three Members of Parliament for allegedly trespassing onto the Jamia Millia Islamia university campus during recent student demonstrations.

According to law enforcement sources, the police action followed a formal complaint by the university administration. Campus authorities alleged that the parliamentarians entered the university premises without seeking official permission or prior security clearance, at a time when heightened security protocols were in place due to ongoing student unrest.

University Administration Lodges Formal Complaint

Officials from Jamia Millia Islamia confirmed that security personnel at the gates had restricted entry to non-students and external visitors to maintain peace on campus. Despite these measures, the visiting MPs reportedly bypassed campus security checkposts to interact with agitating student groups.

"The university is an autonomous institution with regulated entry protocols, especially during periods of administrative sensitivity. An unauthorized entry by outside delegations, regardless of their standing, breaches standard safety protocols," a university official stated.

Police officials registered the case under relevant sections governing criminal trespass and unlawful assembly. Investigators are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from campus entrance gates to establish the sequence of events.

Political Fallout and Reactions

The registration of the FIR has triggered sharp political reactions across party lines. Representatives of the opposition termed the police action an attempt to suppress democratic solidarity and stifle dialogue between public representatives and students.

"Elected parliamentarians have a constitutional right and moral responsibility to inquire into the grievances of youth and students. Registering criminal cases against public representatives for visiting a central university sets a concerning precedent," remarked a senior opposition leader in response to the developments.

Student groups on campus have also condemned the police move, claiming that the university administration is using state machinery to silence student voices and deter public oversight.

Investigation Underway

Senior Delhi Police officers indicated that statements from security guards, campus proctorial staff, and witnesses present at the scene are being recorded. Formal notices are likely to be issued to the individuals named in the complaint to join the investigation.

Security remains heightened around the university perimeter to prevent any untoward incidents, with local police maintaining continuous vigil outside the main campus gates.
