Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has publicly voiced his disagreement with National Conference patriarch Farooq Abdullah over his latest statements concerning the political and security situation in the Union Territory.

While emphasizing his long-standing personal respect for Abdullah, Azad noted that political rhetoric must reflect the ground realities of Jammu and Kashmir rather than reviving narratives that could hinder ongoing peace and development.

Disagreement Between Veteran Leaders

Speaking to reporters on regional developments, Azad stated that while differences of opinion are natural in a democratic setup, statements regarding the sensitive border region should be measured and constructive.

"I hold immense personal respect for Farooq sahab; we have worked together and shared decades in public service. However, his recent remarks regarding Jammu and Kashmir are factually and politically incorrect," Azad remarked during his interactions.

Azad stressed that leaders across party lines must avoid issuing statements that polarize public opinion or create ambiguity about the region's trajectory.

Focus on Peace and Economic Stability

The DPAP chief underscored that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed decades of instability and violence, and current political discourse must prioritize local economic revival, statehood restoration, and sustainable peace.

Key priorities outlined by Azad include:

* Restoration of Statehood: Accelerating efforts to regain full constitutional statehood for Jammu and Kashmir to empower local democratic institutions. * Safeguarding Local Rights: Ensuring strict legal protections for local land ownership and government employment opportunities. * Security and Counter-Terrorism: Backing administrative efforts to stamp out remnants of militancy to secure tourists, investments, and local lives. * Constructive Political Dialogue: Moving beyond emotional posturing toward practical governance solutions that directly benefit the youth.

Shifting Political Dynamics in the Valley

The exchange between the two former Chief Ministers highlights the evolving political spectrum in Jammu and Kashmir. While traditional regional parties like the National Conference continue to press on historical grievances and bilateral dialogue frameworks, emerging regional formations led by figures like Azad advocate a pragmatic focus on developmental milestones, direct engagement with New Delhi, and democratic integration.

Political observers note that as Jammu and Kashmir navigates its democratic roadmap, ideological clashes among veteran leaders will shape public debate and voter alignment in the months ahead.
