Gujarat Man Arrested for Forcing Pregnant Wife to Ingest Urea, Staging Murder as Suicide
Police in Gujarat have arrested a man accused of fatally poisoning his pregnant wife with chemical fertilizer and hanging her to disguise the homicide as a suicide.

The accused was apprehended after medical examination and forensic autopsy reports contradicted his initial claims that his spouse had taken her own life inside their residence.
Forensic Evidence Unravels Suicide Claim
According to investigating officers, the incident initially came to light when the accused alerted family members and local authorities, claiming he had discovered his wife hanging in their home. Local police initially registered an accidental death inquiry and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
However, the forensic analysis yielded critical evidence that pointed decisively toward foul play. Medical examiners detected severe corrosive chemical burns in the victim's digestive tract alongside high concentrations of urea, a nitrogen-rich chemical fertilizer widely used in agriculture that is highly toxic when ingested in large quantities.
Furthermore, the autopsy revealed ante-mortem contusions, defensive injuries, and ligature marks inconsistent with voluntary hanging, indicating that the victim was forcibly restrained, poisoned, and incapacitated before being suspended.
Motive and Sequence of Events
Preliminary interrogations and formal complaints lodged by the victim's family indicate a history of persistent marital discord and domestic harassment. Investigators revealed that the couple had been experiencing escalating tensions over financial strain and family disputes.
"The suspect allegedly concocted a lethal mixture containing dissolved urea and coerced or forcibly poured it down the victim's throat during a violent confrontation," a senior police official privy to the investigation stated. "Once the chemical incapacitated her, he proceeded to hang her from the ceiling to fabricate a narrative of suicide and evade legal accountability."
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Following the corroboration of forensic findings with physical evidence collected from the crime scene—including chemical residues and forensic trace evidence—police converted the initial inquiry into a formal First Information Report (FIR).
The accused has been booked under stringent provisions of the criminal code, including charges of murder, causing miscarriage without a woman's consent, cruelty by a husband or relatives, and destruction of evidence.
Investigating teams have seized chemical samples from the household and sent additional visceral samples to the state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for comprehensive chemical profiling. Police confirmed that further interrogations are underway to determine whether any other individuals assisted the suspect in attempting to cover up the crime.
