In a major breakthrough against organized cybercrime, Delhi Police have arrested seven members of a syndicate that allegedly siphoned off Rs 3.93 crore from an individual's bank account through a systematically orchestrated series of 149 digital transactions.

Investigators revealed that the syndicate deployed sophisticated phishing tactics and unauthorized net-banking intrusions to gain access to the victim's credentials before rapidly disbursing the funds across a complex web of mule bank accounts.

Anatomy of the Heist

According to police officials, the fraud came to light after the complainant approached the cyber crime cell reporting unauthorized fund transfers. Over a short window, the perpetrators executed 149 distinct transactions, siphoning amounts in rapid succession to bypass standard automated banking red flags.

Initial findings suggest the gang employed multiple techniques, including:

* Credential Compromise: Gaining unauthorized remote access to the victim's credentials through deceptive links and digital phishing hooks. * Layered Transfers: Channeling the stolen money through dozens of intermediate mule accounts spread across different banking institutions. * Cash Withdrawals and Conversion: Promptly liquidating portions of the transferred funds via automated teller machines and digital remittance points before the accounts could be frozen.

Coordinated Raids and Recovery

A specialized cyber unit initiated digital footprints analysis, tracking Internet Protocol (IP) logs, call detail records, and beneficiary account trails. Following targeted surveillance across multiple locations in the National Capital Region and neighboring states, law enforcement personnel executed coordinated raids leading to the arrest of seven individuals.

During the operation, police seized several mobile phones, SIM cards procured using forged identification documents, debit cards, and banking passbooks utilized in facilitating the illegal transactions. Technical examination of the seized digital equipment confirmed communications detailing transaction cut-offs and account handling.

Expanding the Probe

Delhi Police officials stated that the investigation remains active as authorities seek to identify the primary orchestrator and trace additional beneficiaries within the fraud network. Police are also working in close coordination with nodal bank officers to freeze remaining compromised accounts and attempt recovery of the siphoned sum.

Authorities have issued fresh advisories urging citizens to remain vigilant against phishing messages, ensure two-factor authentication across all financial gateways, and promptly report unusual account activity to the national cybercrime reporting portal.
