In a decisive intervention aimed at upholding electoral integrity within legal bodies, the Allahabad High Court has barred approximately 300 members of the Oudh Bar Association from casting their votes in the association's upcoming elections.

The court's directive follows a thorough examination of voter eligibility lists, adherence to professional compliance criteria, and long-standing statutory regulations governing advocate associations across the state.

Scrutiny Over Electoral Rolls and Compliance

The judicial bench initiated the review process following formal petitions highlighting procedural lapses, non-clearance of mandatory statutory dues, and failures to verify active legal practice among registered members.

Key issues scrutinized during the court proceedings included:

* Compliance with Model Bye-Laws: Scrutiny over adherence to the established norms governing advocate voting rights and association governance. * Verification of Active Legal Practice: Ineligibility identified among members who failed to establish consistent appearance records or regular legal practice before the courts. * Dues and Membership Standing: Failure to clear recurring association dues and statutory paperwork before designated deadlines. * Implementation of One Bar, One Vote: Adherence to standard apex directives preventing dual voting across concurrent legal associations.

Strengthening Governance in Bar Elections

The high court reiterated that legal associations serve as cornerstone bodies of judicial administration. Allowing disenfranchisement of ineligible or non-compliant candidates ensures that elected bar leadership truly represents the active and practicing legal fraternity.

The court instructed the returning officers and the interim election committee of the Oudh Bar Association to expeditiously scrub the voter registry and publish an updated, compliant electoral roll ahead of the polling date.

Representatives of the bar association have commenced implementing the court's mandate, finalizing administrative arrangements to ensure transparent, orderly, and dispute-free polling in accordance with judicial orders.
