A wave of panic has gripped five rural hamlets in Bihar after an aggressive stray dog went on a rampage, mauling at least 28 people over a 24-hour period. The sudden spate of attacks has overwhelmed local healthcare centers and forced frightened residents to restrict their movements.

Local authorities reported that the attacks occurred in quick succession across interconnected rural settlements, targeting unsuspecting pedestrians, farmers working in fields, and children playing outside their homes.

Wave of Attacks Across Multiple Localities

According to local administration officials and village heads, the animal moved swiftly between five adjoining villages, striking without provocation. Victims sustained severe bite injuries on their legs, arms, and torsos before villagers could mobilize to drive the aggressive canine away.

Among the injured were several elderly residents and young children who were unable to outrun the animal. Alarmed neighbors managed to intervene using sticks and farm implements, eventually forcing the dog into nearby scrublands, though the animal has yet to be captured.

Health Facilities Mobilize Anti-Rabies Treatment

Following the attacks, the injured individuals were rushed to nearby primary health centers and the sub-divisional hospital for immediate emergency care. Medical staff administered first-aid wound cleaning, anti-rabies vaccines (ARV), and rabies immunoglobulin to those presenting with deep category-three lacerations.

District health officials confirmed that adequate stocks of rabies vaccines have been deployed to local primary health centers to handle any further cases. Doctors have advised all victims to complete the full multi-dose immunization schedule to prevent fatal viral complications.

"All 28 patients received immediate wound dressing and vaccine doses upon arrival," a attending physician confirmed. "Several patients with deep puncture wounds were kept under observation before being discharged. We have instructed field medical teams to maintain surveillance across the affected villages."

Fear Paralyzes Daily Rural Routine

In the aftermath of the attacks, normal life across the five villages has ground to a standstill. Parents have kept children indoors, attendance at local village schools has dropped sharply, and agricultural laborers are venturing out only in armed groups.

Villagers expressed frustration over the growing stray dog population in the region and called on local civic bodies and animal control teams to launch immediate capture operations.

District administrative teams, alongside local forest and animal husbandry personnel, have initiated a search operation to trace the aggressive dog and ensure preventive safety protocols are enforced across the affected region.
