Chhattisgarh Man Trapped in Russia and Coerced into War: Distressed Family Pleads for MEA Intervention
A family from Chhattisgarh has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs after an Indian youth was detained and allegedly pressured to fight in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

According to family members, the young man had traveled abroad after being lured by unscrupulous overseas job recruitment agents promising stable civilian employment. However, upon arrival, his travel documents were reportedly seized, and he found himself isolated, facing coercive pressure and physical distress designed to force him into signing military service contracts.
Trapped by Deceitful Job Syndicates
Family representatives revealed that the young man was initially promised non-combatant civilian work. Instead, he was transported to a remote holding facility where he and several others were subjected to intimidation tactics and deprivation.
"He managed to communicate briefly, describing extreme conditions and persistent demands that he enlist for combat duties," an emotional family member stated, urging the central government to intervene before he is deployed to active conflict zones.
The case mirrors a disturbing series of incidents reported across India over the past year, in which dozens of young men from states including Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh were similarly deceived by fraudulent recruitment cartels. Under the guise of lucrative security or logistics positions, recruits have repeatedly found themselves transferred directly to military training compounds.
Government Action and Diplomatic Pressure
The Ministry of External Affairs has previously maintained that the Indian government is engaged in continuous high-level diplomatic dialogue with Russian authorities to secure the discharge and safe repatriation of all Indian nationals entrapped in the Russian armed forces.
Indian diplomatic missions in Moscow have successfully facilitated the return of several trapped nationals in recent months following rigorous consular interventions. Simultaneously, federal investigative agencies in India, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), have cracked down on multiple human trafficking rings operating across various metropolitan centers that prey on vulnerable jobseekers.
Growing Calls for Safeguards
Local authorities in Chhattisgarh have acknowledged the family's formal petition and confirmed that the details have been escalated through official administrative channels to consular divisions in New Delhi.
Diplomatic analysts and human rights advocates have repeatedly urged Indian citizens to exercise extreme vigilance when dealing with unregistered overseas employment agencies, emphasizing the necessity of verifying all foreign employment visas and contracts through government-sanctioned migration portals such as the eMigrate platform.
