Railways Rejects Congress Request for Special Trains to Delhi Rally, Citing Short Notice
Indian Railways has turned down a request by the Congress party to run special passenger trains to New Delhi for an upcoming rally, citing insufficient advance notice.

Railway authorities cited operational constraints and standard procedural guidelines regarding advance notice as the primary reasons for turning down the request. Under existing railway protocols, operating dedicated rakes outside regular timetables requires considerable advance scheduling to ensure track availability, rolling stock allocation, and crew management without disrupting scheduled passenger traffic.
Logistical Protocols and Notice Requirements
According to officials familiar with railway operations, chartered rakes booked under Full Tariff Rates (FTR) typically require detailed logistical planning. Authorities stated that charter applications must be submitted well in advance to coordinate pathing across congested railway zones, particularly along busy corridors leading into the national capital.
Railway officials maintained that the denial was strictly an administrative and operational decision, stating that the request was placed with inadequate lead time, making it unfeasible to mobilise extra trainsets and secure operational clearances without impacting daily passenger services.
Political Friction Over Transit Approvals
Congress party organizers expressed frustration over the denial, arguing that the decision imposes unfair logistical bottlenecks on public participation in democratic rallies. Party leaders contended that transit arrangements for public assemblies have historically been facilitated and alleged that administrative resistance was intended to dampen turnout at the Delhi gathering.
In response, government and railway representatives dismissed allegations of political interference, emphasizing that safety guidelines, seasonal congestion, and rake availability govern all special charter operations impartially.
Alternative Transport Arrangements
With special train approvals denied, Congress state units and rally organizers are pivoting toward alternative transportation networks. State coordinators have reportedly begun arranging chartered private buses, regional transport services, and standard commercial bookings to ensure supporters and grassroots delegates reach the national capital for the scheduled event.
