A high-stakes diversion theft has triggered a widespread police manhunt across Madhya Pradesh after three women, posing as prospective buyers, decamped with gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 45 lakh from a prominent showroom.

According to law enforcement authorities, the incident unfolded during peak operating hours when the suspects entered the jewellery store feigning interest in purchasing high-value bridal ornaments. Operating with coordinated precision, the trio engaged showroom executives across multiple display counters to orchestrate a classic distraction scheme.

Calculated Diversion and Concealment

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the women requested sales representatives to showcase extensive collections of heavyweight gold chains, bangles, and ornate necklaces. While two members of the group engaged the staff in persistent pricing inquiries and design comparisons, the third woman discreetly slipped selected jewellery pieces from open display trays beneath her clothing.

The suspects maintained a composed demeanor throughout the exchange, spending over half an hour reviewing inventory to avoid arousing suspicion. After feigning indecision over the presented designs, the group abruptly left the showroom, claiming they would return later with family members to finalize the transaction.

The theft came to light during routine shift inventory reconciliation when staff discovered substantial discrepancies between the recorded display stock and the physical inventory. A prompt review of the store's internal security camera recordings confirmed that multiple trays had been systematically pilfered while the sales clerks were distracted.

Multi-Team Investigation Launched

Following a formal complaint by the showroom management, local police registered an FIR under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita covering theft and coordinated criminal activity.

Investigating officers have impounded hours of digital surveillance footage from inside the showroom as well as adjacent commercial properties along the commercial thoroughfare. Police are analyzing exit routes, public transport junctions, and vehicle registration numbers captured in nearby surveillance feeds to ascertain the direction of the suspects' getaway.

"Special investigation units and forensic specialists have been deployed to examine physical traces at the counter," a senior police official confirmed. "We are comparing the modus operandi with similar diversion heists reported across neighboring districts and adjacent states to determine whether an organized inter-state syndicate is behind the operation."

Local jewellers' associations have been placed on high alert and requested to review counter security protocols, verify customer credentials during high-value viewings, and report any suspicious attempts to offload untagged gold jewellery across regional bullion markets.
