Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal has categorically dismissed reports suggesting that he tendered an apology to veteran singer Daler Mehndi following a recent controversy during a cultural event in the state. Speaking out against what he described as unfounded media speculation, the senior minister asserted that he had adhered strictly to official dignity and protocol.

"Did I commit any crime? Why would I apologise?" Uniyal stated while addressing reporters. He stressed that as an elected representative and minister of the state government, his actions were entirely appropriate and warranted no remorse or concession.

Clarifying the Event Row

The controversy reportedly stemmed from an interaction during a major public and cultural festival in Uttarakhand, where Daler Mehndi had been invited to perform. Media chatter and unverified social media claims quickly escalated, alleging that friction arose between stage organisers, state representatives, and the performer, subsequently leading to an administrative compromise.

Rejecting these assertions outright, Uniyal clarified that protocol exchanges during government-hosted cultural festivals are routine and that at no point did any incident occur that necessitated an apology from his office.

"Public representatives have a responsibility to uphold the decorum of the state and the people they serve," Uniyal noted. "Rumours claiming that I offered an apology are completely baseless and fabricated. There was no lapse on our part, nor did any occasion arise demanding such an exchange."

Government Focus on Event Management

State officials echoed the minister's sentiments, emphasizing that cultural programmes organised to promote tourism and local heritage follow predetermined standard operating procedures. Administrative teams handling high-profile artists regularly navigate scheduling and stage logistics, but officials maintain that unwarranted political controversies only detract from the objective of promoting regional arts and tourism.

Uniyal urged commentators and media personnel to refrain from amplifying unverified narratives, reiterating that the state administration remains focused on delivering governance and successful public infrastructure initiatives rather than responding to fabricated disputes.
