Prime Minister Narendra Modi on inaugurated the Emerging Science Conclave, delivering a strong call to the global scientific and technological fraternity to ensure that breakthrough discoveries and emerging tools remain firmly anchored in human welfare.

Addressing an audience comprising leading researchers, institutional heads, policymakers, and young innovators, the Prime Minister emphasized that scientific progress should not merely be gauged by laboratory milestones or commercial metrics, but by its tangible impact on improving lives, uplifting vulnerable communities, and safeguarding the planet.

Science as an Instrument of Inclusive Development

During his keynote address, Prime Minister Modi underscored that humanity currently stands at a historic crossroads marked by the rapid confluence of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, and renewable energy. He noted that while these technologies hold unprecedented power to reshape economies, their true potential will only be unlocked if guided by ethical stewardship and societal responsibility.

"The ultimate aim of science must always be human-centric," Modi stated, urging the scientific ecosystem to channel deep-tech capabilities into resolving fundamental structural bottlenecks across healthcare accessibility, sustainable agricultural practices, clean drinking water, and climate resilience.

He pointed out that the democratization of technology is essential to prevent widening gaps between nations and demographics, advocating for open-source frameworks, affordable scientific solutions, and grassroots deployment.

Strengthening India's Research and Development Footprint

Highlighting India's evolving scientific ecosystem, the Prime Minister outlined several strategic government interventions designed to foster an agile and self-reliant research environment. Key initiatives highlighted during the conclave include:

* The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF): Built to seed, grow, and facilitate research, innovation, and entrepreneurship across universities, colleges, and national laboratories through combined public and private funding mechanisms. * National Quantum Mission: Driving foundational research in quantum communication, sensing, materials, and computing to establish national self-reliance in next-generation processing technologies. * IndiaAI Mission: Establishing high-capacity compute infrastructure, developing indigenous foundational models, and promoting the ethical deployment of artificial intelligence across critical sectors. * Deep Tech Startup Acceleration: Bridging the gap between academic research papers and commercial intellectual property through institutional grants and incubation corridors.

Modi emphasized that modern research cannot function within traditional silos, calling for seamless multidisciplinary collaboration between physicists, biologists, data scientists, and social scientists.

Fostering a Culture of Critical Inquiry

Reiterating the administration's commitment to nurturing grassroots scientific curiosity, the Prime Minister called upon academic institutions and research bodies to proactively mentor students from non-metropolitan regions and underrepresented backgrounds. He emphasized that curiosity and critical thinking are the primary drivers of sustainable technological leadership.

As the conclave sessions commenced, participating scientists and technology leaders are scheduled to hold deliberations over several thematic tracks, focusing on ethical AI governance, semiconductor self-reliance, genomics, space exploration, and sustainable energy transitions. The outcomes of the summit are expected to help frame future policy roadmaps for national scientific funding and collaborative public-private research partnerships.
