Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) new greenfield Data Centre and Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Constructed with an investment of approximately ₹169 crore, the cutting-edge installation is engineered to significantly augment the central bank’s digital infrastructure resilience and bolster cybersecurity readiness across the nation's financial grid.

Bolstering National Financial Resilience

The Bhubaneswar facility represents a key milestone in India's strategy to secure its expanding digital banking architecture against sophisticated cyber intrusions, natural disasters, and unexpected operational disruptions. Spread across an expansive campus, the facility is designed to meet international Tier-IV data centre benchmarks, ensuring uninterrupted computing continuity for core banking and inter-bank settlements.

Key capabilities of the newly developed complex include:

- Next-Generation Server Farms: High-density enterprise storage arrays configured for instantaneous real-time failover and high-throughput data processing. - Advanced Cyber Defence Operations: An integrated Security Operations Centre (SOC) monitoring suspicious network activities targeting sovereign financial networks. - Specialised Cybersecurity Institute: A full-fledged training wing dedicated to upskilling central banking officials, cybersecurity personnel, and technical teams across commercial lenders.

Strategic Expansion into Eastern India

The establishment of the RBI facility in Odisha aligns with the Union government's broader mandate to decentralise vital strategic assets while boosting technology corridors in Eastern India. Bhubaneswar has increasingly positioned itself as a major IT and educational hub, offering robust network connectivity, power reliability, and administrative support.

Officials noted that the facility will work in tandem with the central bank’s existing technological centres in Mumbai and Hyderabad, creating a geographically diverse tri-fold redundancy model. This architectural redundancy ensures that critical payment channels, including NEFT, RTGS, and sovereign debt settlement interfaces, face zero downtime even during severe regional grid disruptions.

Enhancing Institutional Capacity

Beyond basic server storage, the institute housed within the complex will conduct deep research into emerging risks surrounding distributed ledger technology, quantum decryption challenges, and generative artificial intelligence exploits. The facility aims to train thousands of regulatory technologists annually, setting benchmarks for national financial safety.

The formal inauguration ceremony is expected to host senior regulatory dignitaries, central bank administrators, and state officials as Odisha expands its footprint on India's technology map.
